Check a Microsoft account

Enter an email address, or a phone number with its country code.

Free checks every day. We only check whether an account exists — no messages are sent.

How it works

  1. Enter an email or a phone number

Type one email address, or a phone number with its country code, such as +1 415 555 0123.

  2. We ask Microsoft's sign-in

The check asks Microsoft's own sign-in service whether that address or number is a Microsoft account. Nothing reaches its owner.

  3. See the answer

In a few seconds you know whether it has a Microsoft account, and can check the next one.

What the result means

  • Has a Microsoft account

The address or number is the sign-in name of a Microsoft account, used for Outlook, Hotmail, Xbox, Teams and other Microsoft services.

This email has a Microsoft account
  • No Microsoft account

No Microsoft account signs in with it. It may still be a real mailbox or number elsewhere.

No Microsoft account found for this email

Who uses it

  • Support teams

Confirm that the address a customer gives you is a Microsoft account before you walk them through a sign-in or a recovery.

  • Sales and marketing

Check that a lead's address is in real use with Microsoft before you reach out.

  • Fraud and sign-up checks

A new address with no Microsoft account behind it is one more signal when you screen sign-ups.

FAQ

Questions about the Microsoft account validator

What it checks, what it costs and what happens to what you type.

Is the Microsoft account validator free?

Yes. You get 5 free checks a day without an account. To check a whole list of phone numbers, use the Microsoft checker.

Does the owner of the email or number find out?

No. The check only asks Microsoft whether the address or number is a sign-in name. No email, text or sign-in attempt reaches its owner.

What can I check?

One email address, such as name@outlook.com, or one phone number with its country code, such as +1 415 555 0123. Addresses from any provider can be checked, not only Outlook and Hotmail.

What does a Microsoft account cover?

One Microsoft account signs in to Outlook.com and Hotmail, OneDrive, Xbox, Teams (free), Microsoft 365 for home and the Microsoft Store.

Is what I type stored?

No. It is sent to Microsoft's sign-in service for this one check and not saved. Only a count of checks per visitor is kept, for the daily limit.

Why was my check refused?

Either today's free checks are used up, or the browser check did not pass. Come back tomorrow, or refresh the page and try again.
